No matter how good your website or app is, it is still vulnerable to attacks. Statistics has shown that cyber attacks will continue to grow.
From the graph above you can see that the year 22021
has recorded a high rate of successful attacks. These attacks could cause a company
to loss million if not billion of dollars. Ransomware
attacks can be extremely costly. For example, an attack involving the NotPetya
ransomware cost shipping firm Maersk more than $200 million. In 2021, the average global cost to remediate a ransomware
attack rose to $1.5 million, more than double the previous year’s average
($761,106). (Sophos The State of Ransomware 2021).
Now, the
question is, how can these attacks be stopped. The best way is to get a good cybersecurity
software. In this article I will be sharing some steps on how to choose a good
cybersecurity software for your company or personal website.
Before purchasing
a cybersecurity software, there are some questions you should ask. Because a
bad cybersecurity software is worst than no security at all. I will outline the
questions below
1.
What type of problem
am I trying to solve: To get a viable solution, you have to study and get to know
your weakness, from there you will be able to identify the problem. Ask yourself;
what am I trying to prevent, what area of my code can I suffer an attack, what
are the possible problem I might encounter; when know your problem, you will be
able to determine what type of solution or preventive measures you need.
2.
Is the software user
friendly: at this point you already know the type of software you need. Most people
go for free software which may or may not be user friendly. There are a lot of
free software out there but it is advisable to spend a little money and get a user-friendly
cybersecurity software like appguard.
Note: Don’t limit your options to freebies, because there may be
hidden costs, and no-cost software isn’t always what’s best.
3.
How easy is it to maintain:
All software needs maintenance. When choosing your software, make sure that the
cost of maintaenance isn’t too excess. For example appguard maintenance
cost is pretty low compare to others out there
4.
What are the software
vulnerability: no matter how good a cybersecurity software is, it will have its
own vulnerability. Don’t sacrifice safety
for functionality. For example, there could be errors in the way codes
are put together that create gaps in security that a bad actor could exploit.
It is advisable to get software with little or no error that cant be exploited.
For example appguard is pretty good in protecting your system
5.
How viable is the software
company: cybersecurity landscape is constantly evolving, so pick a
vendor that will be in business long enough to provide the updates needed to
address future threats. There are some software company like appguard
who has been in the business for more than 10 years
